MPS This Week: Feb. 26-March 2

It's Dr. Seuss's birthday on Friday, which means it's time for another ''Read Across America Day.'' We have special events scheduled at schools throughout the district, including visits from members of the Manchester community who are nice enough to come to spend time reading to and with our students. There's nothing like a good book, whether a long novel or "Green Eggs and Ham."

-- Superintendent Matt Geary

English Department teachers at MHS gave students the opportunity to write letters of condolence to the students in Parkland, Florida, after one of the teachers there sent out a social media request to fellow educators around the country, asking them to help to ensure that every student at Stoneman Douglas receives a personal, handwritten letter.

Members of the Manchester Preschool Center community are among those mourning the loss of 6-year-old Colchester kindergartner DeMarcus White, who died last week of flu complications. DeMarcus, a warm and thoughtful child, was in Ms. Eden's class for two years at the Preschool Center.
BoE Meets Monday

The school board is holding its meeting on Monday at Keeney Elementary, starting at 7 p.m. Here's the agenda.

While Doing

Fourth-graders in Mrs. Gatmaitan's class at Robertson Elementary performed a play as they learned about Ida B. Wells, an African-American who was an early leader in the Civil Rights Movement.
Want To Win an iPad?
As part of our Equity-Informed School Climate Assessment, we are asking parents and guardians to take an anonymous family survey that will help us understand the educational, emotional, and social experiences of students in the district. At the end of the survey you will have the chance to enter a raffle with prizes including iPads, headphones and gift cards. Thanks in advance for participating and please click here for the survey.
