A Revealing Meal
There's a huge gap between rich and poor in society and to dramatize the difference seventh-graders held an OxFam breakfast. By a random draw, students experienced a meal as through they were rich (sitting at meals with tablecloths and being served the best food), as members of the 'middle class' (the round tables, they served themselves) or poor (on the floor eating the least-appealing food).
Those are carts full of Chromebooks parked in the media center for a mid-year tuneup and inventory in anticipation of mandatory standardized testing that starts next week. Somewhat related: We are now using the STARS block for silent reading. Here's a more detailed explanation of that initiative.
It's Almost Go Time!
There's a mandatory meeting for parent/guardians of all students going on the trip on Thursday, March 22 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. We leave the following Tuesday, March 27.

ALSO And don't forget:
Say Cheese!
Team URI (above) was the last of the eight IMS teams to visit the Wadsworth Antheum and like the others enjoyed an enriching tour. Students analyzed paintings, made inferences about the historical context of portraits, and identified artists’ intentions for incorporating symbolism. At the end, students received free day passes to come back with their families.
INSIDE ILLING is compiled by Jim Farrell, the district's communications director, based mostly on contributions from IMS staff and students. He can be reached at or 860-268-6377.
