Elementary VEX IQ Robotics Club


About Us

Robot IconStudents will learn how to build, program, play, test and compete their team's designed robot using the VEX IQ® platform. VEX IQ®  is a robotics program designed to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based program. The program will build STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills that inspire innovation and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.



The Robotics Club for the 2017-18 school year will run from October 16, 2017 through April 23, 2018. Competition will be held in the Spring of 2018.

 Please note the following details regarding the Robotics Club: 

  • Open only to 5th grade students
  • Students will be supervised by MELC (Manchester Early Learning Center) staff from 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm and will receive a snack through the MELC program (more details will follow)
  • The club will run from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm after school, 1 day a week, for 20 weeks (for the specific day and location, please check with your child’s school)
  • Transportation not provided
  • All materials for the experience will be provided and the Robotics Club is no cost to families

  • Crossover is played on a 4’x8’ rectangular field configured as seen above. Two robots compete in the Teamwork Challenge as an alliance in 60 second long teamwork matches, working collaboratively to score points. Teams also compete in two additional challenges; The Robot Skills Challenge where one robot takes the field to score as many points as possible under driver control; The Programming Skills Challenge where one robot scores as many points as possible autonomously, without any driver inputs.
  • The object of the game is to attain the highest score by Scoring Hexballs in their colored Scoring Zone and Goals, and by Parking and Balancing Robots on the Bridge.

Our FIRST Robotics Tournament!!

Manchester Public Schools Elementary VEX IQ Robotics Club held their first robotics tournament on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Illing Middle School. The Robotics Club is an after school program that is only open to 5th grade students to participate. We had close to 250 people that attended our event, which included 57 students participating in the tournament. 
All nine elementary schools were represented with a total of 25 competing robots. We ran two competition playing fields to run all of our matches and the qualifying rounds. At the end of the tournament we held an award ceremony and acknowledged the following teams:
