Perfect Weather Makes For Memorable Road Race
The crowd was huge, the costumes colorful, the finish pretty dramatic. Yes, the Manchester Road Race is always awesome -- but considering the perfect weather, this year’s version was even awesomer. (That’s not technically a word but you get the idea.)
One photo shows Mindy Burke of Manchester Preschool Center. Mindy -- who started running cross-country at Bennet Junior High school in 1982 and ran at Manchester High school after that -- has run the road race run 29 times. “It is a great tradition and I love being a part of it,” she says..
The other photo shows three teachers from Bowers -- Melissa Emmerich, a grade 5 teacher who ran the race for the sixth time; Laura Becker, a STEM teacher who ran it for the 5th time; and Cathie Roy, a first-grade teacher who ran it for the ninth time. The picture was taken on Wednesday -- when they all wore their MRR shirts to school.
You can find lots more pics if you poke around the Internet. For starters, the Harbinger twitter account has some good ones. And the Courant has some pics here and here and here and the complete results are here.
Stephanie Peterson, special education teacher at Illing Middle School and student council advisor, notes that Illing Middle School's student council raised money again this year for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford. Illing and Bennet have been raising money for this cause for about 30 years. Buzz Wooldrich is still involved with behind-the-scenes support. “We had a great response this year and raised $2500, the cost for a child to attend the camp,” Stephanie said
