MHS Starts 'Why Go Anywhere Else?' Campaign

Illing eighth-graders have a chance to meet with representatives of various area high schools that they might attend.

These include magnet schools, parochial schools, private schools and vocational schools like Cheney Tech.

Manchester High traditionally has a modest presence at such events, but this year is handing out literature asking “Why Go Anywhere Else?”

Students will be given a folder that includes a letter co-authored by Superintendent (and former MHS principal) Matt Geary and Jill Krieger, the current principal.

“One of the great things about living in Manchester is that you have lots of choices about which high school to attend,” they write. “We encourage you to research wisely and to consider all of your options. However, we also want to tell you why the best place for you may very well be the school that’s right across the street. Manchester High.”

The folder also includes a flier touting many of the strengths of the high school — with an emphasis on the advantages that come with being part of a diverse, resource-rich community in the town where you live

The flier also notes that students who attend schools outside of Manchester spend a great deal of time on a  school bus. For example,  a  student who attends the Public Safety Academy in Enfield would travel more than 27,000 miles driving back and forth from Manchester during four years, according to the flier.

Both the letter and the flier are linked here. FLIER | LETTER
