Mrs. Litwin has been a teacher for 22 years, fifteen of them in Manchester. She came to Bowers School ten years ago and taught first and second grade before becoming the Math Coach in 2012. Mrs. Litwin finds this a very exciting time for teaching and learning math. Students today are challenged to understand mathematical ideas as they use numbers to solve problems and compute answers in ways that are efficient, flexible and accurate.

What is Math Workshop?
Teachers at Bowers School are using the workshop model in their classrooms. Math Workshop is an approach to teaching math in which teachers model concepts and skills, provide structured small group lessons, and use independent practice opportunities that help students understand the math more deeply. This helps students apply their learning to new situations. Learn more from Dr. Nicki Newton.
What is EnVision Math 2.0?
Teachers in grades K-5 are using the EnVision Math 2.0 program as a primary resource for teaching the district math curriculum. It emphasizes the importance of using hands-on experiences and visual models to develop understanding of math concepts as a foundation for using standard methods to communicate the same ideas.
