June Newsletter (6/12-6/21)

Classroom Happenings

The children planted either a pumpkin seed or a sunflower seed in soil and placed a bean seed in a plastic bag.  We have  been watching, waiting and observing the growth process over the past few weeks.  Most of the children’s seeds sprouted and some have already gone home.  Happy gardening to you! Each child wrote in a Seed Journal.  The journal will be coming home.  Encourage your child to continue to observe their seed/plant and then draw and write in their journal.

We have continued exploring the topic of growing and changing with a new  focus on caterpillars.  Our cup of caterpillars has chrysalides already.  We can’t wait until they turn into butterflies! We have been reading both fiction and nonfiction books about butterflies such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Butterfly Garden, I am a Caterpillar, Waiting for Wings, The Butterfly Hunt, and Caterpillar Dreams.

On Thursday, 6/15 from 10-11am the  CT Science Center will be at MPC. You can purchase discounted memberships at this time.

On Tuesday, June 20th we will be having an end of the year celebration in the multipurpose room from 10:30-11:30.  Please put it on your calendar. This will include a song, a brief slide show followed by a snack served in your child’s classroom. We are looking forward to seeing you there.

At Home Connection

The end of the school year can bring with it some mixed feelings.  You can help your child with this transition by talking with them about the end of school.  They may want to draw pictures or write letters to their special friends and teachers.  You may want to plan some summer get togethers with your child’s friends.  Meeting at the library or a local park can be a great way to keep in touch with your child’s friends and yours, too!
