Students Visit Discovery Camp

The Wall That Heals

On October 7th, Bennet students assembled on the front lawn of Bennet Academy, holding American flags,  to welcome The Wall and the veteran motorcycle caravan that escorted it.   On October 8th, all students participated in a walking field trip to Center Memorial Park to visit The Wall.   Read more about The Wall That Heals by clicking HERE.

Bennet Students Participate in Project O

Sixty students from Bennet Academy have the opportunity to participate in an inquiry based science program.  The program is called Connecticut River Connections (C.R.C.) and is carried out by Project
Oceanology, located at Avery Point in Groton Connecticut.  C.R.C. is funded by the Connecticut State Department of Education Bureau of Choice Programs and pays for all the costs associated with this
expensive program. The program was created to achieve two goals: to increase student understanding of how biotic (living) and abiotic (nonliving) factors interact in our watershed and Long Island Sound and to
reduce racial, ethnic, and economic isolation of students from different schools who share the same watershed. Students will experience four offsite experiences and one onsite for a total of five experiences during
the school year.

Seasonal Sharing Shop

Tis the season of giving and that is certainly the case at Bennet Academy.  Last year, Support Services Department Facilitator, Amber Schwarm, created The Seasonal Sharing Shop.  It has become a collaborative effort among the department and entire Bennet Staff.  Students that might not otherwise have the means or opportunity to share gifts with their family members during the holiday season, have the opportunity to visit the "shop" and choose gifts.  All gifts are donated by staff and community members.  Volunteers work at the shop, helping students to choose gifts and wrap them.  All that is left for the student to do, is give their gift to a loved one.

Student Advisory Council

MPS Student Advisory Council

On December 18th, students ranging from grades 5-12 met at Bennet Academy to participate in the first Student Advisory Council.  Students worked together to talk about when, where and how we use collaboration in the Manchester Public Schools.  In one of the photos below, students needed to collaborate to achieve a goal: keep as many balloons in the air as possible for 30 seconds.
