Football Team Travels To Southington To Face Top Team in State

High School Sports Season Kicks Off This Week

The high school sports season starts this week and that means a tough test for the Manchester High football team.

MHS travels to Southington Friday night for a 7 p.m. game against the top-ranked team in the state.

The two-time defending state champs, Southington is led by quarterback Jasen Rose, who threw for 47 touchdowns last year.

MHS had a scrimmage last week that featured TD runs from Jakia Westberry (at left in photo) and Jevin Frett.

MHS plays its first home game a week from Friday, against Simsbury. Other home games this season are on Sept. 24 against New Britain, Oct. 16 against Conard-West Hartford, Nov. 13 against Wethersfield and Nov. 25 (the night before Thanksgiving) against East Hartford.

Here are the opening games for the rest of the fall sports teams.
