PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

November 2017

Dear Waddell Families,

With the chilly fall weather and changing of leaves came an outstanding October!  We would like to thank the Fire Department for coming and presenting Fire Prevention to our students.  They were very excited to learn about stop, drop, and roll and meeting Smokey the Bear!  We also would like to thank Mrs. Perkins for her parent presentation of our Social Thinking Curriculum continuum and how it relates to Cognitive Functioning.  Furthermore, we would like to thank our PTA and the Outly family for providing a fun filled Halloween Family Night and applaud all of the families and staff who dressed up for the event!  Our school was filled with spooky surprises and unending laughter all night!

This month, we have also spent time building our classroom communities through circles and the concept of respect.  Our students participated in our first Community Building lesson which focused on respect and ways in which we show it at school, at home, and in the community.  Students had great ideas and examples of what it looks like, sounds like, and feels like to be respectful as well as respected.   We look forward to continuing this monthly experience and focusing November on Responsibility.

As we look forward to Thanksgiving, we wanted to remind you of a few key events.  First, the Anti-Defamation League will be returning to Waddell to work with our entire fifth grade as a part of Bullying Education.  Students will learn what it means to bully and how to be an ally.  We will also be honoring our Veteran’s this year by creating cards to send to a local VA hospital, expressing our gratitude for the sacrifices they make.  We will also be sending home Stars for you to honor your friends and families that we will place around the school to honor our family and friends.  Also, there are Parent-Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, November 14th, Wednesday, November 15th, and Thursday, November 16th.  These are half days, so please plan accordingly.  If you are unsure of your date and time or need to schedule an appointment, please contact your classroom teacher.  Our infamous Turkey Bingo, hosted by our PTA, will be on November 17th from 6:00 – 8:45.  This is one of our most popular events and we hope to see you there!
